You might already know the obvious tourist hotspots of Harrogate; Betty’s Tea Rooms, the Great Yorkshire Showground, RHS Harlow Carr, the Turkish Baths and all the many conference and exhibition centres. You probably also have your favourite bars and restaurants that you can’t resist coming back to, but this page will keep you updated on what is new and happening in Harrogate, so you can check out something different each time you visit. Here’s the latest list of events up to the summer of 2017.

Royal Hall Open Day – Starting on 15th Feb 2017 and then twice monthly throughout the year

An opportunity not to be missed to wallow in the Edwardian splendour of Harrogate’s ‘glittering palace of gold’ with a behind-the-scenes tour which gives the lowdown on how the recent refurbishment brought the hall back to life. Guided tours are between 11-2.30pm with the hall open and free-of-charge to enter all day between 10-4pm.

Harrogate Farmers’ Markets – 9th February 2017 and then every second Thursday throughout the year

Running from 9.00am to 4.00pm these very popular monthly markets on Cambridge Street showcase the very best, fresh and authentic produce found in Harrogate and the surrounding Yorkshire pastures. Celebrate the fine local cuisine, chat directly with the producers and stallholders and take home some authentic Yorkshire jams, breads, pickles, cheeses, pies, meats, fish or vegetables.

Harrogate Film Festival – 3rd to 5th March 2017

This annual three day event aims to captivate film lovers and film makers, with a celebration of the art and a series of lectures and competitions for those with a passion for getting involved themselves. Hosted in several different venues the event is a great opportunity for budding filmmakers to air their work, be seen and get networking.

Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama – 3-5th March, 10-12th March and 17-19th March 2017

Hosted by Harrogate High School this event is held over three weekends culminating in a Final Concert featuring over 1,000 performers. Three-day weekends host all-day workshops demonstrating a high expertise in speech, drama and music and represent a great opportunity for local people to investigate a potential career or develop a much-loved hobby.

Jimmy Carr at the Royal Hall – 5th March 2017

A veteran of the live stand-up scene, Jimmy Carr is more often seen on our TV screens nowadays, particularly with Channel 4’s ‘8 out of 10 cats’. But the 44-year-old is heading back out on to the road this year with his ‘Best of, Ultimate, Gold, Greatest Hits Tour’, which as you would expect, includes some of his classic routines plus some new material.

The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars 2017 – 8th March 2017

A unique evening at the Harrogate Theatre celebrating the music from Soho’s legendary jazz club, which has hosted some of the music world’s most famous names, and they are all featured here in a musical journey that is an absolute must for any jazz lover.

Danny Baker’s From Cradle To Grave – 10th March 2017

Hot from the award-winning BBC adaptation of the first volume of his life story, TV and radio legend Danny Baker has decided to take his motormouth on to the stage. The Harrogate Theatre is sure to host a very memorable occasion as the recent ‘I’m A Celebrity…..’ star promises that no two nights will be the same on this rare foray into the theatres.

Hamlet – 21st-22nd March 2017

Described as a ‘muscular’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic play, this production at Harrogate Theatre promises to be bold, exciting and action-packed. With violence and revenge a central theme this is sure to be a performance to pin you to your seat.

Great Yorkshire Motorhome Sale – 24th – 26th March 2017

The famous Great Yorkshire Showground is the perfect venue for this lavish motor extravaganza, with both indoor and outdoor arenas showcasing new and used vehicles, along with accessories, gadgets and much more among over 100 exhibitors.

Naomi’s Wild & Scary – 18th April 2017

The successful BBC Children’s progamme comes to life in more ways than one, as the Royal Hall plays host to this great family occasion, with plenty of creepy crawlies, interactive moments and fun for children of all ages.

Spring Flower Show 2017 – 20th – 23rd April 2017

The Yorkshire Event Centre brings you another seasonal garden extravaganza, with the beautiful show gardens, plant nursery displays and live expert demonstrations. As ever, there are plenty of opportunities to shop away and collect everything you need to build your own flower garden at home.

Tour de Yorkshire – 28th – 30th April 2017

This successful offshoot from 2014’s epic Tour de France venture into God’s Own County is now in its third year and still drawing huge crowds. The end of the second stage on April 29th will see a big finish in the streets of Harrogate where the usual carnival atmosphere will doubtless be cheering the riders along.

BBC Good Food Show 2017 – 5th -7th May 2017

The Harrogate International Centre plays host to this prestigious event showcasing a series of top national chefs and stalls selling regional and artisan goods. There will be plenty of opportunities for sampling some of the delicious food cooked up along with demos, interviews and book signings.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears presented by the Northern Ballet – 6th May 2017

Described as ‘Short ballets for small people’ these charming productions by the famous dance company are only 40 minutes long, and perfect for introducing the little ones to the stage, performing arts and some classic storytelling.

KT Tunstall – 18th May 2017

2017 sees the Scottish singer-songwriter back on another headlining tour in support of her new album ‘KIN’, which sees her stop off at the Royal Hall for what is sure to be a night where her infectious melodies stay in your head all the way home.

Harrogate Music Festival – 1st June to 31st July 2017

Various venues across the town host the very best of chamber music, classical jazz and contemporary music via this two-month festival of performances, lectures, recitals and artists’ residencies.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr Flower Show – 23rd – 25th June 2017

This is the second annual flower show in Harrogate’s famous gardens, with a wealth of stalls, trade stands, specialist nurseries and experts on hand, and with frequent talks and demos to catch up on in between a relaxing stroll around the gardens.

The Great Yorkshire Show – 11th-13th July 2017

The biggest agricultural show in the UK needs very little introduction, but even after all these years it remains a unique event and an action-packed day for all the family. With fashion shows, cooking demos, livestock events and hundreds of stalls all across the Great Yorkshire showground, you will need the full day to truly appreciate it.
